| Farewell Dinner with The Girls |
[Jun. 27th, 2008|10:20 pm] |
Karen (to the right of me in the middle) is leaving town tomorrow morning :(
She is my best friend and has been for the last 8+ years, I know she is only going to be a 2 hour drive away in Orlando but I am going to miss her terribly - thank goodness for the internet, instant message, facebook, myspace, texting and cell phones!!
So we (the programming girls, minus Ann who couldn't make it :( had one last dinner together at Chili's. Much laughter and suprisingly no tears (we're all in denial!!) We topped off our lovely dinner by all strolling over to and around the 'Dollar Store" for about 45 mins!!!
So here we are (from left) Rachel, Jenn, Me, Karen and Jo
Oh and today is my youngest daughter Kenzie's 11th birthday - beach party tomorrow - lots still to prepare and do !

| Leaving the Nest - feeling melancholy |
[May. 22nd, 2008|04:21 pm] |
I am kind of melancholy today, a sum of several reasons...
My heart hurts for Steve Curtis Chapman and his family as they grieve the loss of their youngest child Maria, who was only 5 years old. (click on the link, it's a home video of her and SCC washing dishes, being a normal daughter and Dad - it's so sweet)
I think it's especially 'raw' for me today because my oldest, my first born, my golden little sunshine boy, who is now a man at 19 is leaving home today to start his life out in the world on his own.

He is flying out tonight, first to NY to work this weekend with his boss, then they are both going on up to Massechusetts to set him up there in an apartment ready to work and oversee the operations there for the next 6 months to work at the Six Flags up there. Fire School will be Jan 2009
... and as excited for him and as proud of him as I am, there is still an incredibly heavy sadness kind of mourning in my heart.
He is the same age my husband (his father) was when I met him - time flies!
Steven Curtis Chapman wrote this song, inspired by his 2 youngest adopted daughters .. it is called Cinderella - listen to the words (I will post them lower down) - listen well, things can change in an instant :(
I love you my golden haired boy, live well, live full, live happy. I shall miss having you around in our daily life here at "Chaos chez the Bertelsons"
Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman
She spins and she sways to whatever song plays, Without a care in the world.
And I'm sittin' here wearin' the weight of the world on my shoulders.
It's been a long day and there's still work to do, She's pulling at me saying "Dad I need you! There's a ball at the castle and I've been invited and I need to practice my dancin'" "Oh please, daddy, please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella While she is here in my arms 'Cause I know something the prince never knew Oh I will dance with Cinderella I don't wanna miss even one song, Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight And she'll be gone
She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed She wants to know if I'd approve of a dress She says "Dad, the prom is just one week away, And I need to practice my dancin'" "Oh please, daddy, please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella While she is here in my arms 'Cause I know something the prince never knew Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella I don't wanna miss even one song, Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight And she'll be gone She will be gone.
Well, she came home today With a ring on her hand Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned She says "Dad, the wedding's due six months away And I need to practice my dancin'" "Oh please, daddy please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella While she is here in my arms 'Cause I know something the prince never knew Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella I don't wanna miss even one song, (even one song) Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight And she'll be gone |

| It's a Number's OCD thing! |
[May. 12th, 2008|09:22 pm] |
Monday May 12th 2008
.... and my daughter has it too!!
Just love matching numbers!! (I like alliteration all around actually - even my kids are all M names!)
You will notice that I STOPPED the car to take the photo ;)
I have other odometer ones in my flickr stream all 1's : 3's and 9's : 0's
... and yes I do smile every time I look at a clock and it says 11:11 1:11 2:22 3:33 4:44 5:55 - so glad clocks stop so the next one never shows! |

| Happy Mother's Day .... |
[May. 11th, 2008|04:20 pm] |
.... to ME
...... and to all the (as my pastor once said) "Mothers, Grandmothers, whatever kind of Mother you are" out there on Flickr :)
This is what was brought to me this morning by my 4 children ... cooked by my oldest (19) son Matt :) - I didn't finish it all!
Melanie aka "FelonyMelanie" on Flickr (almost 17) gave me the book "Extra's" by Scott Westerfeld.
I have already read "Uglies" & ""Pretties" and Specials" (she is currently reading Specials)
The inscription inside the book...
"Mom, I'm so grateful to have a mother I can talk to about anything and everything that's going on in my life.
I really don't thank you enough for all the things you do for me.
Happy Mother's Day & Happy reading :)
I love you, Melanie.
P.S. finish quick so I can read it :P"
LOL :)
Maddie (12) gave me a B&W framed photo of her and her big sister (it's actually in Melanie's flickr stream HERE) and a hand-made card card that said ...
"Dear Mom,
You are a great mother who deserves appreciation. You have about 3 special days and today is one of them. You are to be catered to, pampered, fed and honored. For all the hard work and money you give to us, U deserve today. We all love you Happy Mothers day,
Love your 3rd daughter, Maddie"
Kenzie (10) gave me a lovely hand made card that said the following ....
"Dear Mommy,
I know I get you mad a lot, but you know I love you and I'm sorry. Thanks 4 being my mother, I am really thankful,
I love you, Kenzie"
Church was GREAT today - we had a parent/child dedication on stage - always a tear jerker, but while they were up on stage, Genie sang the Sara Groves song "You cannot Lose my Love" ..... I just cried the whole way through it, It just rung so true to me ... here are the words. - you can listen to the song HERE
You will lose your baby teeth. At times, you'll lose your faith in me. You will lose a lot of things, But you cannot lose my love.
You may lose your appetite, Your guiding sense of wrong and right. You may lose your will to fight, But you cannot lose my love.
You will lose your confidence. In times of trial, your common sense. You may lose your innocence, But you cannot lose my love.
Many things can be misplaced; Your very memories be erased. No matter what the time or space, You cannot lose my love. You cannot lose, You cannot lose, You cannot lose my love. |

| Happy Smores Valentine's Day :) |
[Feb. 13th, 2008|09:48 pm] |
My MIL's dog Snow is living here chez Bertelson for a week, attending the much adored "Club Doggie Med" while my MIL is up in NC at the cabin. (Snow is supposed to be full Maltese, but she's huge, looks more like a Coton de Tulear or Bichon to me - prob a mix)
Anyway she is 9mths old now and still VERY much puppy and my 2 Norries think she's the most annoying thing on the planet !! LOL but they tolerate her well enough and MUCH "fromping" goes on! (note - fromping = frequent romping)
I call them the Smores pack - since Snow is the puffy Marshmellow, Twix (the Black and Tan) is the Chocolate and Twizzler (the Red) is the Graham Cracker - perfect Smore!
They look so durn cute on our new black leather sofa, I added the dark red soft throw rug in honor of Valentine's day tomorrow ..... I had my FIRST date with my hubby on Valentine's Day - *28* YEARS ago .... and I'm still madly in love with him :)

| NEW TABLE! |
[Feb. 4th, 2008|07:25 pm] |
|
Our dining room table is dying!! It was an old one of Nils' parents anyway - it's old, worn, scarred, painted and re-painted, chipped and well just plain grungy! On top of that the chairs are falling apart too. It's not unusual to sit in a chair and the bar to dislodge and you sink to the floor !!
So we got a new table today - We decided NOT to get the leather chairs too because they were a dark chocolate brown and not black (which would match our new sectional sofa) so we will look for other chairs later. It is a wood base/legs with a marble top - it's really cool to lie your face on too (it's kinda hot here for February!!! and our AC is not on!

| We are starting December off in Luxurious Style! |
[Nov. 30th, 2007|02:10 pm] |
Hubby's Mum Joanie bought us all (6 of us) this black leather sectional sofa for Christmas - We cashed in on the Post Thanksgiving sale prices ($700 off!)
It has 2 recliners and a queen sleeper in it - 6 seats - it matches the black leather recliner that she got hubby for his birthday in October.
It is SO comfy and soft - YAY!!
So you can see the girls up close, since I know they are what everyone wants to see and not the sofa!!! - They are SO hairy right now, in desperate need of a 'stripping' but we are going to NC in Dec so keeping them shaggy (for warmth) till we get back!
